Best of Drake on the Road

Over the years we’ve enjoyed countless pictures and stories of Drake Group trailers being handed over to their new owners at our manufacturing facility. Today we’re turning our attention to them on the road doing what they do best – carrying massive loads in the unlikeliest of locations.

Boss Logging

First up are the team at Boss Logging Pty Ltd who are taking their one year old 4X4 Steering Widener on the road with a bit of a detour through a river at low tide. The power and versatility of this mover (and the skill of their driver!) made it look easy. After all, Drake Group trailers are built for Australian conditions.

Gradco

A river of a totally different kind, the Savage River Mine, was the destination for this hard-working Drake Group trailer back in December. It was carrying massive haul truck trays, each of them eight metres wide and weighing an incredible 30 tonnes each. Five of them had to get moved to the mine site, and we’re proud to see The Drake group trailers making this feat possible.

Tasmanian Heavy Haulage

Meanwhile down in Tasmania, Tasmanian Heavy Haulage were putting their brand-new quad axle Deck Widener through its paces. It, coupled with the Kenworth 950 tasked with hauling it, were carrying a massive Kobelco earthmover like it was nothing. As one Facebook commenter put it – “proper trucks towing proper trailers”.

Bower’s Heavy Haulage

Now this is a real head-turner: Bower’s Heavy Haulage’s gigantic seven-row Steerable, 2X8 Steerable Clip coupled with a 2X8 Dolly. To make it even more of a special addition, all the units were fitted with BPW axles. All up this massive mover weighs more than 100 tonne and is an impressive 12 metres in length, making it a can’t-miss spectacle on the highways. Our own photographer couldn’t resist the opportunity to check out what it looked like on the job, too.

Toll Group

Our friends at Toll Group don’t just deliver packages – they’re involved in even the biggest of moves around the country. They were recently snapped as they were moving a gigantic Hitachi Mining Excavator up to the Commodore Mine out in Millerran, south-west of Toowoomba. The undercarriage alone grossed 200 tonne and the upper structure was a similarly-monstrous 166 tonne. To get this job done, they relied on The Drake Group’s 6×8 Steerable with a 2×8 clip and a seven-row Steerable coupled with a three-row clip. This was no small job, but The Toll Group’s expertise combined with The Drake Group’s equipment got the job done.
